Wellness Fair during Sidewalk Festival Days

The BINA Foundation is sponsoring a Wellness Fair called “It’s All About Prevention” on the weekend of August 6th – 9th during the Kent Sidewalk Festival Days. Marilyn Gansel, founder of Fitness Matters, said, “Health education can help prevent disease and help protect our environment. Why not use the rich resources in our community and the Barn Shops to promote healthy living.”

The Fair features a series of activities to educate people about disease prevention, to promote natural health and to create an overall awareness of physical, emotional, mental health. After visiting all of the health specialists and retailers participating in the Wellness Fair, you will walk away with an increased awareness of your health.

  • On both Friday and Saturday, Kathie and James at Panini Cafe will be serving delicious and healthy fruit smoothies for the Wellness Fair at the Village Barn Shops.
  • On Saturday, August 8th, the following events will be taking place highlighting the theme “It’s All About Prevention.”
    • At 10 a.m. on the lawn between Doc’s Trattoria and Panini’s, Kevin Capobianco, a personal fitness professional from Fitness Matters, will be demonstrating a one-hour sample Outdoor Boot Camp. This event is free and open to all adults.
    • At 11 a.m., Alinah Hernandez, a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance, will be offering a one-hour free restorative yoga class to reduce stress in the studio above Progressive Medicine.
    • At noon, Leana, Doctor of Bellydance, will be teaching basic belly dancing moves above Progressive Medicine in their studio. The hour-long class will be free to the public. No previous dance experience is necessary.
    • From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., The Kent Land Trust will share information about Kent’s planned community garden outside the New Leaf Health Store.
    • At 1:30 p.m. Dr. Heather Gansel, from Head-to-Toe Chiropractic, will be inviting children of all ages to participate in a jump rope contest for healthy hearts on the walkway between Doc’s Trattoria and Panini’s.
    • From 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., music will be provided by Kristin Richards, Director of Kindermusik at Fine Line Theatre Arts in New Milford at the same location as the jump rope contest.
    • During the hours of 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., free blood pressure screening will take place at the entrance of Fitness Matters.
    • From 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Owner and Pharmacist Peter Daprile, of Kent Apothecary, will be sponsoring a diabetes clinic adjacent to Fitness Matters.
    • From 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. outside Fitness Matters, Dr. Heather Gansel will be available to talk about reducing back pain and keeping a strong core. She will also be available to talk about how to improve your summer sporting activities like golf, cycling, running, tennis and swimming. Marilyn Gansel will be on hand during that time to talk about the importance of exercise to prevent heart disease and diabetes but also during and after cancer. She and Debbie Morgan, Board Member and Wellness Educator from the BINA Foundation, will also be available to speak about the mission and vision for the foundation.
    • From 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Fitness Matters will be passing out complimentary bottles of water and Sobe Life Water, while supplies last, donated by the Pepsi Bottling Group in Brookfield, CT.
    • From 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. adjacent to Fitness Matters, Sue Murdock from Ann’s Place, the home of I CAN in Danbury will be to discuss cancer support, programs, and resources to help cancer survivors and their families
    • From 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. around the corner from Fitness Matters, Lisa Corrado of Lisa Corrado Nutrition will be on to provide healthy eating tips and examples of good food that you’ll want to eat.
  • Other local businesses will feature events tuned to the same theme, wellness.

The BINA Foundation’s mission is to provide a medically supervised lifestyle modification program to high-risk individuals who cannot afford medical, nutritional, psychological, chiropractic treatment and/or fitness program. We facilitate access to health services for individuals who are uninsured, under- insured or do not have health insurance coverage.
