Kent Park and Recreation summer schedule update.
Summer Program Series for Region One
The four towns, Cornwall, Kent, Sharon and Salisbury, will host a complimentary outdoor movie night July 18 at Veterans’ Field in Sharon. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for picnicking. A community grill will be available, and families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, chairs and blankets. Light refreshments will be sold. Two movies will be shown: “E.T.” starting at dark followed by “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” The rain date is July 25.
Two family outings will be offered: a July 10 trip to a Rock Cats baseball game and Aug. 18 family day at Lake Compounce.
Tickets for the Rock Cats game are $15 per person which includes bus transportation, the game and post-game fireworks. The bus will leave Sharon Center School at 5 p.m. and pickup at Scasco in Cornwall Bridge at 5:15 p.m. and the Goshen Rotary at 5:30 p.m. Paid reservations, payable to Sharon Rec & Youth, should be sent to Sharon Rec & Youth, P.O. Families may purchase discount tickets for Lake Compounce at $25 each or choose the $40 price which includes bus transportation. The bus will leave Sharon Center School at 9:30 a.m.; Scasco in Cornwall Bridge at 9:45 a.m. and the Goshen Rotary at 10 a.m. Paid reservations, payable to Sharon Rec & Youth, should be sent to Sharon Rec & Youth, P.O. Summmer Teens
Trips are planned to Misquamicut Beach, Rhode Island, on July 12 and Aug. 9 and Six Flags New England on Aug. 14. The trips are open to teens who live in the six region one towns and who will be entering grades 7-12 in the fall. The outings will be chaperoned by the Cornwall, Kent, Salisbury and Sharon Rec Directors.
The Misquamicut trips are $15 per person which covers the bus transportation and entry to the beach. The bus will leave Sharon Center School at 6 a.m.; Scasco in Cornwall Bridge at 6:15 a.m. and the Goshen Rotary at 6:30 a.m. The trips will include stops for breakfast and dinner and beach time from about 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations, payable to Sharon Rec & Youth, should be mailed to Sharon Rec & Youth, P.O. Box 385, Sharon, CT 06069 by July 10 and Aug. 7, respectively.
The Six Flags Trip is $40 per person for transportation and entry ticket. The bus will leave Sharon Center School at noon; Scasco in Cornwall Bridge at 12:15 p.m. and the Goshen Rotary at 12:30 p.m. Reservations, payable to Sharon Rec & Youth, should be mailed to Sharon Rec & Youth, P.O. Box 385, Sharon, CT 06069 by Aug. 7.
Yoga Class
Kent Park and Recreation offers an evening yoga class Thursdays from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the Kent Community House, North Main Street. The flow-style classes generally run 75 minutes. Registration fee is $75 for a six-week session or $15 a class. Registration will be accepted in the Park and Rec office, town hall, and at class. Slamma-Jamma Basketball Camp
Kent Park and Rec will co-sponsor Coach Art Leary’s Slamma-Jamma Basketball Camp of Kent Aug. 10-14 at South Kent School. Boys and girls in grades K-3 (ages as of 9/09) will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, and the registration fee is $125; boys and girls ages 7-14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $165.
Campers will receive a free camp ball and shirt. The program will include guest speakers and skill competitions.

Summer Tennis Lessons
Kent Park and Recreation will offer summer tennis lessons for beginning players ages 6-9 July 14 through Aug. 13. Lessons will be offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the tennis courts at Kent Common Playground, Swift Lane. Ages 6-7 will meet from 9 to 10 a.m.; ages 8-9 from 10-11 a.m. Using a game-based approach, participants will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of tennis. The forehand, backhand, serve and volley will be taught using fun drills designed especially for this group. Registration fee is $90/player. For forms, information, call 927-1003.
U.S. Sports Institute Camps
Kent Park and Recreation will host the U.S. Sports Institute Multi-Sport Camp July 13-17 at the playing fields adjacent Kent Center School. The program, open to ages 5-12, will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. and costs $104. Experience 10 different sports from around the world in one week. Call 927-1003 for registration brochure, information.
Kent Park and Recreation will host the U.S. Sports Institute Sports Squirts Camp July 13-17 for ages 3 to 5 at the playing fields adjacent Kent Center School. The camp will be offered at two different times: 9-10:30 a.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. at a cost of $84 for each session. The camp introduces children to a variety of sports through fun activities. Ultimate Frisbee
Kent Park and Recreation will offer Ultimate Frisbee Tuesdays, through Aug. 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the playing fields at Kent Center School. The coed program is open to Kent youngsters currently in grades six through eight. Participants are asked to bring a Frisbee if possible. Park Passes
The 2009-2010 park passes are available in the Kent Park and Rec office, town hall. Pass programs are swimming and swim lessons at Emery Park, use of the town tennis courts at Kent Common Park and holiday ice skating. Passes cost $35 for Kent residents; $65 for non-residents and free for Kent residents ages 65 and older.
Lunch in the Park
Lunch in the Park, co-sponsored by the Kent Memorial Library and Kent Park and Recreation, will meet Thursdays, July3 through Aug. 20, at noon at Emery Park, 42 Segar Mountain Road. Families are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and lunch and listen to children’s stories, read by library staff and volunteers. The program is free. For more information, call 927-1003.
NOGA summer soccer camp
Kent Park and Rec will host NOGA summer soccer camp Aug. 3-7 at Kent Center School. The camp is open to youngsters ages 4 and up and will meet from 9 a.m. to noon.
