Backcountry Outfitters is working together with Sister Mary Laning to help feed the homeless in Harlem this Valentine’s Day. The second annual EGGstravaganza is in the works and Backcountry Outfitters is looking for help from the community.
BCO owners Anne McAndrew and Dave Fairty raise chickens. An idea was hatched (pun absolutely intended) that a hard-boiled egg is a food item that can be kept clean and sanitary and stay fresh for a few days. The two, plus Kent resident Karen Bussolini, got in touch with Sister Mary who feeds the homeless through her group, Street Corner Gourmet. Last year over 102 dozen decorated eggs were sent down to the city.
Anyone who can contribute 1 dozen hard-boiled eggs (or more) drop them off at Backcountry Outfitters on Wednesday, February 10 or Thursday, February 11. If they are decorated hard boiled eggs you earn extra brownie points. For more information, call Backcountry Outfitters at 860-927-3377.
