Kent Memorial Library Needs Donations for Book Sale

Its that time of year when the Kent Memorial Library begins to think of its annual book sale. The book sale, which begins on Memorial Day weekend and runs through mid-October, is a major fund-raiser for the Library. As the Library only receives 30% of its funding from public sources, it depends on the fund raising activities of its hardworking volunteers, such as its book sale, to finance its purchase of materials, support its children and adult programs, and maintain its physical structure.  Continue Reading

Chimney Service Scam

The callers for the chimney service scam are at it again, calling local people to schedule false workmanship. They sometimes claim to have done previous cleaning, even though no service was performed. If challenged, they will hang-up. They are using Long Island phone numbers, including 631-924-0428, 0249, 0452, and 0461. If contacted, please call First Selectman Bruce Adams at town (860-927-4627) or home (860-927-4981). Hopefully, we can get the town ordinance modified to make such solicitation illegal without a permit. Calling the state for help appears useless, as one resident discovered.
