Continue Reading By John Mauer On October 6, 2009 at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Dave Parker will be writing his last story for the Waterbury Republican-American and stepping into retirement (again). As the only local reporter for our major daily newspaper, Dave has become something of a fixture in town, and especially at local meetings. His knowledge of Kent, and his exceptional insight into local events, made his stories wonderful to read. Dave’s long journey through journalism was all relatively local, and that makes his story a northwest corner odyssey. Vince LaFontan started working with children here in Kent for the Park & Recreation Commission. As he grew professionally, so did the afterschool programs in many towns. Today he is the Director of the Farmington Extended Care & Learning (EXCL) program. And, just this month, LaFontan was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Afterschool Association, a national professional development, advocacy and standards organization. Regan Gibson, of Georgetown, Massachusetts, participated in the Berklee College of Music’s 2009 commencement held recently in Boston at Boston University’s Agganis Arena. Last Friday evening late, David Rochovansky, 66, was stricken with a apparent heart attack outside the Kent Green Laundromat which he ran with his wife Caralee.
